Why Put Forth the Effort?

Some days, it's just not worth it.
It's not entirely narcissistic, you know!
The effort. The nerves. The gall.
A little something would be nice -
Something more than a grunt.
In some cases, even a grunt would be an improvement.
Show a sign.
Of life.
Of recognition.
Not looking for adoration.
Just acknowledgement.
Appreciation.
For the effort.
No. Not me.
Not talking about me.
I'm used to talking to walls.
