Northern Lights
Here are a few of the hundred or so shots I took Sunday night:

Click for more.
I've only seem them from Illinois one other time, seen them from northern Wisconsin a few times, and have seen more color before, but I have never seen them as brilliant as they were on Sunday. And I have never seem them directly overhead and even into the southern sky. What is currently the last pic in my gallery is of the area straight up. It's pretty subtle (need to tweak the raw image a little more) but you can see the pink along with the green.
My parents first called me from N.W. Wisconsin about them around 6:00p.m. We were heading out to dinner, so didn't see them until about 9:00 while heading north on 94 near the IL/WI border. I shot pics from about 9:00-10:00 and then went out again around 10:45 and it was even brighter then. Intense.
In addition to that, my wife and I saw about a dozen shooting stars. I even saw a double - one chunk broke off and fell behind the main bit.
A truly magical night.

Posted by: Kevin at November 9, 2004 06:16 PMHey, thanks. Still have a lot more to process. There was a hint of the lights again last night, but only barely.
I wonder what it would take to attach the camera to the scope.

Posted by: Mary the in-law at November 18, 2004 04:44 PMI don't mind if people use my photos as long as they a) ask b) give credit and c) don't make any money off of them. So you're all good.
Oh, and thanks!!!
