Crappenhammer
Well, turns out my posting script isn't as cool as I thought it was. Update pings haven't been going out to weblo.gs and weblogs.com as expected. This is actually somewhat of another test of that. Anyway, I thought I could just insert the URLs for the update sites into the 'entry_to_ping_urls' field of the MT database, and then upon rebuild, they'd get pinged. It seemed to work, but the format must be off because my updates never show up on those sites if I use that script. Looking back to the MT docs, it seems that field might only be useful for trackback pings, not update pings. I'm going to have to get into the nitty-gritty of crafting my own ping packets, perhaps.
blo.gs has a ping feature where you can just hit their site with a URL like: http://ping.blo.gs/?name=Eblo&url=http://tantalus.dnsalias.net/eblo/&direct=1
But it doesn't behave as expected if fired off from wget. No time now, though. I guess I'll go back to posting through the web interface until I can work it out.
